Marketing is the number one thing (besides hiring) I hear small business owners struggle with.

So a lot of times, working with a consultant is the right move.

You’re probably not (or shouldn’t try to be) an expert in SEO, PPC, social media, website design, digital marketing, copywriting, etc., but you need to understand enough about it so you can be an informed buyer.

This is where I see a lot of business owners get burned because there are so many people selling a piece of the marketing puzzle. Just think about how often your phone rings with somebody trying to sell you some new online marketing tactic or lead generation tool.

So here are the 5 things that a consultant you can trust will be doing

They should be asking you tons of questions about your business, about the services you offer, about your ideal client; they should be talking to your clients so that they can actually create a plan that’s based on strategy and allows you to make the competition irrelevant and take advantage of your point of difference.

If they come in just talking about tactics, then you should be a little worried.
