All Marketers Must THINK Like a Strategist

Here’s a component of small business marketing that’s still under reconstruction: it’s not enough today to be a good SEO agency, Social Media person, Web Designer or Content provider to succeed, you have to step up your game to help your client with marketing strategy.

That’s what most marketers aren’t taking advantage of yet. You need to be a strategist, first, then SEO agency, social media person, Google Ads provider, content creator, web designer, etc.

When somebody comes to you and says, ‘We need a new website.’ Okay? For who? What problems do you solve? What motivates your client to solve this problem? What’s your brand promise? What’s the customer journey like?

A lot of marketers who are certainly good at what they do understand they have to have this information because this is what creates a good end product.

The problem of course, is if you’re set up just as an SEO agency, social media provider, Google Ads shop, or web designer, it’s going to be hard to deliver and get paid for strategy work. But without it, you can’t do a good job.

So either outsource that work to a marketing consulting firm or develop the capabilities in-house but never start an engagement without it.
