Are You Targeting The Right Customers?

Often I talk about not chasing the wrong customers, and the ideal client profile. What does that mean?

A lot of times in a small #business, the phone rings and, the client asks “Can you do this?”, we often say, “sure” because we’re happy to get out there and help somebody.

But, the truth is, everybody that we can help and that has the budget for what we provide is not our right client.

There are people with a problem and budget that pay late, who disrespect your staff, and who don’t value the thing that you do best.

If you show up on time and you clean up when the job’s done, and that’s what you do best, but they just value somebody with a fair price, you’re going to have a misalignment, and probably a bad experience, which leads to bad reviews.

Typically, when you have the right problem, solved by the right approach, you’re going to have the right experience which gives you reviews, and referrals.

So, targeting the right client, really just stems from not saying anybody that has a kitchen is your customer. You can have a kitchen, but not be motivated to solve your outdated kitchen problem. You could be a dentist, and just because I have teeth doesn’t mean I’m motivated to solve my crooked tooth or chipped tooth problem.
