“Sell me on your marketing firm and services?”
During this event, one student approached my table with the best question you could ask:
“Sell me on your marketing firm and services?”
As soon as I heard this question I immediately knew this would be a teachable moment.
So I proceeded with asking pre-qualification questions, around what type of company, how long have they been in business, and what the marketing needs are?
Essentially the student said in this example the company needs a website, needs a core message, and help with everything.
Here’s when I delivered the teachable moment: I told this student, my firm doesn’t best support a business in this stage so this prospect is not our client.
The student looked stunned. 😲
I explained to this student that there are plenty of customers to go around. Just remember that you don’t need them all and maybe more important you don’t want them all. Not all customers are ideal — but for a thriving small business choosing and serving ideal customers above all is essential for success.
