Recently I was part of a discussion among CEOs talking about developing services into products and lowering the barrier to entry for new customers.
I really think any business, including service businesses, can offer a way for someone to sample their expertise or service within a product format using just a little bit of creativity.
For example:
- a consulting firm might sell a discovery audit as a product
- a marketing firm might sell a certain type of strategy engagement with set deliverables
- an accounting firm might create a “get clean up” mini engagement that allows someone to try out bookkeeping services without a long term commitment
- a general contractor might offer a One Day Stair solution to start relationships that could position them for larger projects
