Small Business Owners: Who are your real competitors?

Most small businesses aren’t very good at identifying their true competitors. I tend to ask clients to define competitors not only from a service to service standpoint but what other solutions exist that can solve your prospect’s and client’s problems.

Sometimes, when you know too much about your industry you rule out competitive solutions too easily and other times you are viewing a client’s problems through your filter and overlook completely different categories of solutions that they are considering.
