Most businesses focus on messaging like “great service”, “hiring knowledgeable staff”, “fair pricing” or a “quality product.”
As I’ve mentioned before this is “expectation messaging”, anyone who is paying for a service expects those things mentioned above.
Truth is your ideal customer has a problem. You need to clearly guide them through how you solve their problem.
Interviewing ideal customers is the most effective strategy to use here.
Interviews bring insight into the actual problems you solve for customers so if you haven’t interviewed your customers yet, do this tomorrow.
Here are 5 questions you should ask:
- What problem triggered you to look for a business like ours?
- What were your main concerns? Top priorities?
- What type of online content were you looking for?
- What made us stand out? If we didn’t, how could we stand out?
- What, exactly, made you decide to buy?
