“We Just Need More Leads” (No, You Don’t)

The Call:

A home service business owner told me, “We need more leads.”

I hear this all the time.

But when I asked a few questions, the real problem surfaced:

  • Calls weren’t being answered.
  • Estimates weren’t being followed up on.
  • Conversion rates were low.

They didn’t need more leads. They needed to get more out of the leads they already had.

The Common Mistake:

It’s easy to think that more leads = more business. But leads without a solid process are just wasted opportunities.

Too many businesses throw money at ads, SEO, and lead generation before fixing what happens when a lead actually comes in.

The Real Question:

Before you spend another dollar on marketing, ask yourself:
✅ Are my leads being responded to immediately? (Not just during business hours.)
✅ Is my team trained to convert inquiries into booked jobs?
✅ Do we have a follow-up system for estimates and quotes?

The Fix:

1️⃣ Optimize your response time — Most customers won’t wait. If you’re not following up instantly, they’re booking with someone else.
2️⃣ Improve your closing process — Are you making it easy for customers to say yes?
3️⃣ Follow up relentlessly — Most service businesses fail because they give up after one call. 80% of sales require at least five follow-ups.

More leads won’t fix a broken process. But a better process will turn more leads into revenue.
